Hey guys, I had the "spinning wheel of death" with my springboard after I messed around with finder and mail. So I sent my iPod back to apple saying I had a screen flickering issue, and they "identified the problem" and have got a new one on the way for me, engraved and all! I'm tracking it's shipment from China now. Long story short, you're not totally screwed if you locked it up like this and can't fix it yourself. With a little feigned ignorance apple should take care of you.

Could try doing what the creator of this thread did maybe?

Please Register or Log in to view images

If not, uninstall/reinstall iTunes and then re try restoring.

ROMs and iPhone apps are kinda, sorta, totally illegal.
