This is a discussion thread for the "Samsung Shaped Dent in the Universe" story posted on the front page.
Interesting article. It shows that this isn't the first time Samsung has copied from the best. Its just that Apple is the first to really call them on that and take them to court. And Apple is getting the bad press from this...
Heh, he called the iPhone "innovative. The original iPhone was far from innovative. It was miles behind technology that had already been available for years. All it did was add a pretty look and slap on an Apple logo. Calling the iPad innovative is even more offensive. Tablets had been around for years, and the iPad isn't even truly a tablet. The iPad is simply an oversized iPod touch. A true "tablet" would have all of the functionality of a PC in the form factor of a simple slate (cue Microsoft Surface). I'd love to see a list of things Apple can actually be credited with "innovating" in the smartphone and tablet market.
The first iPhone was amazing. It was the first phone with a decent display and things like multitouch.
Might as well give everyone dents then cause it seems to me every company is copying another company. I could list a ton of examples where each company has copied each other, but it be stupid cause it would prove just as much as this article did. Honestly, I do not see this article proving that Samsung is the biggest copier out there and all this article proves is that were going to see Samsung and Apple loyalists argue about God knows what.
"At least someone was willing to say it. 'Great artists steal,' sure, but Samsung has blatantly crossed that line." Clone != steal. No line was crossed. Samsung was doing something different all along Sent from an iPod touch with TapaTalk... Autocorrect may alter the meaning of this message
Multitouch was invented in 1982, and has been used in various touchscreen devices since then. From Wikipedia: Palm PDAs (and smartphones) had color touchscreens long before 2007. Not sure on the history of BlackBerry, but I believe they did as well.
