After a week of leaks, even more so then the iPad, Samsung have come out and revealed the new Samsung Galaxy Tab.

As we all know, and as we all saw in my previous thread, it is a 7Inch Android tablet. The nitty gritty specs have been spilled and I'm going to cover the device right here and right now.

    Launch details:

The Tablet will be available in Europe first, around Mid-September. It is said to be released in the US later this year. We also don't know which carriers will be getting this, but T-Mobile looks like it will. No news on a CDMA version either. This could change and isn't set in stone.

    Hardware:

As we would expect, the Galaxy Tab has a solid build. Unlike the Galaxy S (which I happen to own) this doesn't have the fragile feel to it. It is also very light in weight and the screen is very glossy indeed, more of a mirror then the iPad, and thats saying something.

The screen unfortunately is not a Super AMOLD (Super Active-matrix organic light emitting diode, thank you very much) but a LCD. Even though the screen is still very nice, it looks dull in caparison to the Galaxy S. The capacitive touch screen is also just as good as the iPad and the very fast CPU is very capable of keeping up with the UI. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is just as thin as the iPad, but has a thick feel to it for some reason.

    Software:

Android is a phone OS, so it seems odd to have it on a 7 Inch tablet, especially since its not made to take use of that extra real estate on the screen BUT I must say it works really well.

It comes with TouchWiz 3.0, which Tbh I would rather have a unskinned Android, but its still fine and works extremely well.

The apps have been made to use the screen and clearly look attractive. The email app looks very much like the iPad app, in the respect that it has a dual-pane view. The messaging app is also very similar. A media Hub with a Music Store and player is also embedded into the device as well as a e-reader app for e-books and magazines, just like iBooks then. It also comes with a video calling service that supports the UMTS standers.

Third-part apps that are made and developed within Google's UI guidelines should be able to scale up to the full resolution, but some of the Apps may have to be reworked.

Apps shown at IFA that were upscaled to 1024x600 looks good, if not nice.

    Wrap-Up:

This year will truly bring many tablets to the market, and many of them will use Android, many will use Palm OS, some may use Windows 7 or even windows Phone 7,and as we all know iOS will be on the dominant iPad, but right as of now, this is one if the best.

It's future will lie in the developers rather then Samsung, as it is these days. Samsung have laid down its cards and has set the standard for all future Android tablets coming this year and next.

No price is announced and expect it to hit Europe this month.

Same hardware as Galaxy S? At least clock it higher!!! 1.2 GHz with 1GB RAM would help..

Absolutely no tablet will use Palm OS. Just saying. The last version was Garnet, released in 2005.
