Also worth noting that Apple recently acquired a patent on its SIM card technology. Since a SIM card is necessary for a phone to interface with a network under the current technological constraints we have, the standards-essential patents clauses apply to it. In other words, Apple can't use it offensively, or risk having it invalidated and fined.

So the media was wrong. It wasn't a "key" patent at all. Just throwing this in, since they are related.

Please change the title. They haven't been fined yet. They could be fined as the source suggests. I cannot find another source listing an actual fine being given out.

I thought this was about the LTE threat Samsung made towards Apple.

One of the biggest giants in the industry should give up? Just because they aren't Apple, doesn't mean they aren't succeeding.

I did not say they were a bad company. I'm just sick of the patent wars. Apple is also ridiculous...trying to patent a phone with rounded corners is outrageous.
