I thought the Samsung announcement was going to be boring, and just them announcing the Note II (interesting phone, but not for me). And then I saw this. I mean, seriously. If I can get this easily unlocked and for a good price, I'll do it.

Pretty quick 'retaliation' from Samsung. I wonder why the switch to windows phone 8, perhaps no patent worries? Haha, I probably wouldn't get one. It looks sweet, but I have little need for a smartphone. With those specs it should be a very smooth device, I'm intrigued to see more.

MS and Apple have long-standing patent agreements. They're frenemies, and I really do think that Samsung will embrace Windows Phone quite a bit more because of it. Android has a lot of patent issues, even beyond Apple's.

This is actually a fairly high-quality device. Especially pitted against most others from Samsung...

Metal in the contruction, and the front is actually glass, with beveled edges. (O_O Much like the Nokia N9 and Lumia 800...) Plus, it looks very thin. And, with those specs, WP8 will flow with ease. I seriously wonder what the boot time will be.

Quite premium indeed. Windows Phone is looking gooooooood... Now I can't wait for Nokia's event in a week!

Windows Phones are great devices, but I would consider two things when you make your purchase: if it plays nice with your current technology and how much the App Store is important to you. Granted, I have no experience with 8 since it isn't out yet, but after using Windows Phone Mango for a year, I can honestly say that those were my biggest regrets. It took quite some media conversion to get my stuff on it, not to mention that I'm syncing my calendar three ways just to get it on my phone. That said, that probably isn't a problem for most people who aren't weird like me and keep their music in MP3s and movies in MP4s. The main thing to consider is the app store. With WP8 and easy coding from Windows 8 to Windows Phone 8, it will likely pick up speed in terms of growth. But I would wait a little while after 8 launches just to make sure, because as of now, the Windows Phone app store is small, is missing many of the "big-time" apps, and the games are pitiful. I am glad to see better hardware in new phones though, for that reason, and hope that mobile GPUs will improve in these coming devices.

Those specs are almost a year old.
But it looks nice I have to admit.

I can't honestly say there are any apple AppStore apps that I have actually used on a regular basis. Sure, the store is huge, but it is filled with a majority of useless apps and games that I've regretted buying to find they have very poor controls. There are a few gems, sure. But I don't think the size of the AppStore is a reflection of the quality of its content. I'm sure titles such as angry birds will find their way onto the device, but only if it is a success, which I think it will be.

The phone looks beautiful. Maybe Samsung will stop with the crappy plastic now and change to this :)
