) and I accidentally upgraded to 3.1.3. So now I tried downgrading back to 3.1.2 so I could jailbreak it, but I get the message, "The iPod "blahblah" could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible." I'm running iTunes 9.2 and my serial number starts with 8K, so I have no idea what's wrong. Is my iPod just too new?

That's your serial number... not your model number

All 3G should have an MC at the beginning of the model number, if not then... I'm not sure.

I was able to downgrade, but I'm not sure if I can post the links here so I'll leave it at that.

Ok here's what you have to do. Just get the 2G firmware that matches your 3G. It's weird, but you need the 2G firmware. Coca Cola has a thread explaining it, but I lost the link :/
