    every time I exit out of Safari on my ipod touch, and then go back in, the history has been deleted. If I was looking at something like an FAQ, I have to type in the URL for that FAQ. However, it doesn't seem to be deleting usernames and passwords...any suggestions?

    ssh into your ipod and chmod 777 this file:
    "/private/var/mobile/Library/Safari/History.plist"

    using this command:

    a bit of a problem: History.plist doesn't exist. I went into WinSCP and it isn't there. I even went on my ipod to a few sites and refreshed. Still no history. Its weird because my ipod shows that it has a history if I check after visiting the sites but it still doesn't show up in the directory. Is my ipod a freak of technology?

    Try doing it while it has a copy of that, e.g. when you are using safari.

    Thats the problem. Even when I am using Safari, there is no history.plist in the folder you specified.

    ok..fight the problem in his root:
    chmod 777 to this directory "/private/var/mobile/Library/Safari/"
    (I mean the "Safari" directory)
    then start mobilesafari and now look if there is a history (not with winscp but directly on the touch) there SHOULD !
