The one thing that keeps me from getting an iPod touch 3g is the fact that your locked into what Apple deems as suitable. Everyone has an iPhone for the same reason.they purchase every rendition of the iPod, it's fashion item with tech woven in.its pathetic,and then people camp outside for it....
Well that make me happy!!! The 2g owners should feel bad. At least you get to understand how I (first gen owners) felt like. I know for a fact that half of the first gen owner will get this. I know I will. I hope this will happen because I am excited!!!

I'm an iPod touch 1G owner, never had intentions of getting a 2G, so to hear that this iPod will have a camera and a microphone...I didn't much care if there was a microphone or not, I was still gonna get it! Now, seeing as it'll have a microphone, I think we can all say it'll have 3GS hardware for video recording. Why else would it have a microphone? I think it'd be better competition against the Flip, for example, instead of a VoIP phone. Maybe the microphone will be right next to the camera, like the cases show, instead of at the bottom of the device for calls. It it were to do calling it'd need a speaker at the top so you could hear the other person. I don't see that happening though. All that being said, I went to an Apple store today and struck up a conversation with one of their workers. He was smiling, and I started off saying "so I have a 1G iPod touch, and I've really been looking into upgrading, and I was wondering about the 3G iPod touch", his face got serious here, "...you know, will it have the camera, maybe video recording..." He cut me off and said "nothing has been announced yet." With this news though I'm super excited.
If it does include these things, I can't see it being much cheaper than the iPhone. Nonetheless, I will be upgrading as well - and if it's over the £350 for the 64GB (If there is one), I might just consider waiting for the next iPhone.
Since I have a 2nd gen, I might wait for the 4th gen or the real remake of the iPod Touch. Right now, Apple is providing little changes each year. Or maybe I could just wait for the next iPod to be released. iPod Slide! Hmmmmm.
