root password

    I want to change the root password of my jailbreaked ipod, but the command 'passwd' doesn't work in ssh or in term-vt100, command not found. (i'm a linux noob btw :>)
    Any help?

    well first thing is first this is not Linux, it's UNIX! LOL

    I hope your login as root before you run the passwd command. The only command I know for changing the password in UNIX is passwd, please make sure your root before initializing this command.

    by the way I just tried it in vt100 and it worked for me
    Login: root
    password: alpine
    # passwd ********

    root# /bin/csh
    root# passwd

    vt100: on startup
    /usr/bin/login File does not exist
    /bin/login File does not exist
    # /bin/csh
    # passwd
    passwd: command not found

    if i type 'login' -> Not a login shell

    putty/ssh: i log in as root:alpine
    # /bin/csh
    # passwd
    passwd: command not found

    i don't know how to change this pw

    See if you have the file 'passwd' in /usr/bin

    If you don't, the easiest way to get it is by installing the BSD package from installer.app (it even has vi! LOL)

    Sorry for the ignorance!

    I am sorry, I am completely new to this, can somebody please explain to me how to do this? Do I do it on my touch? from my mac? how do i enter a command? thanks in advance!
