With RockBox can you play movies on an ipod that doesn't normally support videos?
If you can, how?
Basically you can dual boot a completely different firmware other than the iPod firmware. The firmware was written from scratch and has support for plugins, one of which is Mpegplayer.
I had it on my old 1G nano, video playback was pretty smooth on it.
how do you get mpegplayer on it?
It comes in the stock rockbox installation, you just have to put a video file on the device. When you navigate to that file, it simply just opens with that plugin.
