    Overview
Qik Video Camerais a slightly new Video Recording application in the App Store. The Qik Video Camera does exactly what the Application advertises; It records video on every iPhone to date! It comes built in with many features such as Black and White, and a zoom function.

Two shots of the home screen, showing all features.

As soon as you open the Application your phone's camera opens and you are able to see whatever is in front of you. Along with your camera view, you have quite a few tools:
    • First in the upper left hand corner you have the zoom function.
    • Next to it brightness control if you feel the view is too dark.
    • After that, an Audio boost function.
    • Last a Resolution option. Giving you a choice between 200x152 and 400x304.

Then along the bottom of the screen you have a scrollable menu with 10 features.
    • First is just regular recording.
    • Second is Black and White recording.
    • Third, Black and white with red, giving you a scrollable option to choose the amount of red in the video
    • Next, a mirror feature making the object reflect.
    • Then, an "Avatar" blue skin look.
    • After that there is a Sepia view.
    • The next tool is cool. It is a touch zoom option allowing you to touch a place on the screen initiating a zoom on a certain point in the picture. Screenshot
    • Next to it a bulge tool.
    • Then an inverting tool.
    • And finally a Frost tool which allows you to wipe away certain parts of the frost and record within it. (Like fog on a mirror)Screenshot
To bring up or hide these options just simply tap the screen once.

Along the very bottom of the Application you see three different icons:
    • To the very left is the Gallery button. Press to see the videos you have captured.
    • In the center is the recording button. Press to record in whatever feature you selected. A video timer is in the upper right corner.
    • On the far right is the settings option. Bringing up options for various settings.

    Video Quality

Click image to view video. Video made by me.
As you can see in the above video, the Qik video app in normal view, in 400x304 resolution has great capturing software, better then Cycorder in my opinion. To properly evaluate the capturing device though one would have to test all modes and features. In my opinion for a quick video it is great for capture. Yet the authors them selfs said if you did have an iPhone 3GS the native recorder had better quality than the Qik Recorder.

    Gallery View

Gallery View in both Grid and List view.
Within Gallery View (Default List view) you are presented with your videos and a nice message at the bottom that explain to you that you can connect to your iPhone via it's IP address to export your videos to your computer. Personally I think this is a great feature, and a great way to get video to your computer if you can not SSH.

    After selecting a video.
Once you decide to tap on the video that you want you are presented with several cool options:
    • Tap the video to play it.
    • If you tap the "Add Title" you are able to edit the Name of the video.
    • Under that you have Add to camera roll with I will go more in-detail about.
    • Then you have a delete option.
    • A send by email option.
    • A SMS sending option.
    • And a method to post it to your Facebook wall.
Now my favorite feature about this Application hands down is the fact that you can add your videos into your camera roll. Now usually I would not be this excited about that but there is something cool about this feature. With the videos that were added from your camera roll from Qik Video Recorder you can trim/edit right from your device as if you had an iPhone 3GS! While for 3GS users this isn't that big of a deal, but ask any iPhone 1st Generation or 3G user. They will probably love this function, and it is a major selling point for me.

    Settings

The settings that you can change to your liking.
Here in the settings part of the Application you have access to many of the various feature in the App. Here you can:
    • Tap account to see the version of the App and the copyright information.
    • Change video resolution.*
    • Toggle Audio Boost on or off*
    • Choose to Automatically export your videos into your Camera Roll after you are done recording.
    • And you have to option to change your Gallery view from List to Grid and vice versa.
*= Also available on Capture Screen.

    Overall
Qik Video Camera is a wonderful Application for any iPhone. Wether you have a iPhone 1st Generation without a Video function, or even a 3GS with a built in Video function this is a must have Application. There are small faults in it though. One being if you are recording a video and receive a text message the video will stop causing you to start over again. I recommend turning on Airplane mode if you are shooting something important. Besides that though it was very hard to find flaws in the App.

    I give this Application...

The main site says up to 15 FPS. But I think it might be a tad higher.

Nice review! One thing though, there's no point in blocking out your internal IP address (192.168.1.X). It only affects people connected to your network.
