Nice review. I only bought this device to run android on it though, and for hp's firesale you really can't go wring with it. For it's original price it's not worth it, but it's still a decent tablet. It's no ipad 2, but it's useful.
As much as I like my TouchPad, I definitely don't think of it as a 4-and-a-half-star device. Like you said, the App Catalog is small, so I don't see why that shouldn't take an effect on it's rating. You say that the build quality is bad, yet you still give it a 4-star rating, which is good. I can't even imagine the build quality of a device that you would rate 2 stars. The lack of support for different video formats is also an issue. I'm in no way saying that the iPad has better video support, but at least for the iPad, there's an app for that. I do know that there's an app in the App Catalog, but it's twice the price of the app that I bought for my iPad and it's quite buggy (I've used the demo). Just my 2 cents.
The device gets it's rating from the price and I think it is one of the best tablets still. As I said the build quality is just like most android tablets.
I heard that HP was giving refunds to people who bought the device when it was $300+. I think it was on Giz.
I agree and disagree to both of you. I agree that build quality is terrible and a magnet to fingerprints. I'm going to have to buy a case for mine since the glass (or plastic) screen is lifting up a little on one side. It did not deserve 4 stars. More like 2 or 3. However, I do believe that it is worth at least 4 stars because it is all relative to price. If Angry Birds was $20, you would not give it 5 stars, but it's only $0.99, so it is a steal. Same goes for this device. It's not worth $400 or $500, but more like $200-$300, which is why it is an absolute steal and is sold out. You get what you pay for, and at $100, you get a little bit more. I do one a TouchPad and agree that it is definitely not worth $500 or even close to being as good as my iPad. I do believe it is a must have at $100 since it is not condoned to rooting. If this review was based on quality and best tablets not relative to price, this would be a whole different story.
Sorry I did score the review more because of the price and didn't want to bash on all the problems with the device. Someone should do a review based on only the features.
No need to be sorry, I completely agree with your review, except for build quality. I would have given it a 4 1/2 also. Good job.
I do agree that price has something to do with the rating, but not everything. Look at any review (from the Review Team) posted on this site. Every section of a review is written without the price in mind, with the exception of the 'Value for Price' section. And this is the only section in which the price has any effect. Like if I were to pay $2000 for a laptop that breaks down after 3 months, I would think of it as a crappy laptop and that I wouldn't buy from that company again. But if I paid $300 for the same laptop that breaks down in 3 months, then it'd still be a crappy laptop. Just because I got it at a bargain, it doesn't make it a better product. Of course, Badd_Blood, this is your review so I cannot tell you how to write it. I just believe that a review should cater to everyone, no matter how much they bought the product for or how much they can buy the product for.
Why is Hacking rated as NA? There is an excellent hacking community. Preware, overclocking, android... The hacks can really improve your device's performance, unlike iOS hacks.
