Ok, so, I returned my ipod today. Old 2nd gen iPod, and went through all that crap.

I come home, attempt to jailbreak and kaboom. Nothing is happening whatsoever.

Considering the 2g 8gig model is same as the 3g 8gig model, -hardware wise-, I should be able to jailbreak it fine right?

anyways. 3.1.2. cant jailbreak, halp pl0x.

Well, just go to Settings > General > About and check the model number. I'm pretty sure it is the MC model. But in either case, you will jailbreak fine with blackra1n. But if you have an MC model, you will have a tethered jailbreak, meaning, if you turn your iPod off, you will need to run blackra1n again to turn it back on, but there won't be any loss.

Okay, then it's a 2nd gen. So what happens exactly? You connect your iPod, and what do you see?

well, I connect it, and click make it rain.

it goes black screen, goes into recovery mode for about a split second, turns black again, and proceeds to boot as a regular ipod would, no blackra1n logo or anything.

nevermind v.v just found out why its screwed up.

I expected it to be on 3.1.2 because I had just gotten it today, like, how it'd be automatically updated to most recent firmware release.

Turns out, I'm a dumbass, and its on 2.2.1
