Ok, so I restored my iPhone to 4.0 and all that good stuff. For my own reasons, I wanted to get rid of EVERYTHING but the texts that were on my phone, so I went online, and found the file I needed to backup that contains all of my SMS messages from my mobilesync backup folder (3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28.mddata), I create a new backup folder file for my fresh iphone, put the file in there, and when i try to restore from backup... It fails. (I had to restore twice BTW, to create a new backup folder with all the appropriate files) Anyone have any idea how I can get those texts back onto my phone? ------------------double post merged------------------Ok, I figured it out. If you are going to attempt this, do not I repeat, DO NOT DELETE YOUR BACKUP FILES. You need 5 of them, and lucky for me, I had a time machine image of my disk from 5 days earlier. I unfortunately lost 5 days worth of texts due to this over sight, but I'll have to live with it. Not only do you need 3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28.mddata but you also need these files from the backup file: 3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28.mdinfo (NOTE THAT ITS MDINFO NOT MDDATA) Info.plist Manifest.plist Status.plist When you have these, all you need is an empty back up folder, put all these things in there, right click your iPhone in iTunes, and hit restore from backup and you are golden!
