I think it's time to get all the excess junk off my ipod. What would be better then a fresh restored jailbroken ipod?

I went and downloaded the iPod Touch 3G 3.1.2 Firmware. Then opened up iTunes ... Shift + Click to restore to the iPod3,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw

Oo. Look at what we have here. An error? Hmm..

Thats odd. I went and downloaded the file from another source. The same thing happened. Could someone suggest an idea without having to restore to 3.1.3? Please, and Thank you

i think it may have something to do with the generation of ipod you have. For instance, my 2nd gen ipt uses the firmware thats named something like IpodRestor,2.1,3.1.2 or something like that.

Yeah I have a feeling thats what the problem is. Wow. So I was reading and It says I would have to backup my ECID SHSH signatures through Cydia or Rock ... and I have no idea what that means. Lol Help?

Okay, is there a way of doing this through Rock. Because I've been having troubles with Cydia (It keeps crashing on me)

check out if you got the right model version of your FW . If youre still on 3.1.2 you can DFU restore to 3.1.2. But just in case save your hashes

Nah, I found out Apple stoped signing 3.1.2 firmwares so you cant restore to 3.1.2 its more or less forcing you to update to 3.1.3 cause they patched the blackra1n exploit. I'm busy trying to find out how to fix that problem cause there is a way to get around Apple and use Cydia's source to restore. Blah blah blah. It's still confusing me.

NO there is now way around it
stay with 3.1.2 till a new jailbreak comes around

and always remeber too to save your SHSH certificates in cydia

if you restore you will be forced to update to fw 3.1.3 which has no jailbreak on late mc devices

BTW: your late ipod 8gb uses 2G firmware not 3G thats why it gave you "firmware file is not compatible"
