I just got an Ipod Touch 1G and whenever i try to restore it i get a 1604 or 1611 error, sorry im new to this.. but here goes.. i plug it in and this is what i see,

started restoring with the newest version of iTunes, everything was looking good, then it went from the screen above into this screen

then i see a little animated circle (loading) at the bottom, looks like it's working... and then the Ipod turns off, Itunes keeps trying to restore "Preparing iPod for restore..." and the error 1604 comes up..

    sooo what i've tried:

    >> reinstalling all apple software, itunes, quicktime, etc etc.. didn't work (didn't work in DFU mode either)

    >> then i tried iTunes 7.5 and firmware 1.1.4 (didn't work in DFU mode either)

    >> then i downloaded WinPWN 2.5, set it from Custom to QuickPWN had an error: "QuickPwn failed:Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt." that happens everytime soo then i tried Custom, its builds a Custom IPSW file, enters DFU mode, which turns the whole screen White, says its been Pwnd.. then has this error: "winpwn 2.5 BETA has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Ipod screen stays White and nothing happens lol..

anther thing, i can get into this screen by playing around with the two buttons..

but no matter how long its charging for (hours and hours) it won't charge up at all.

sooooo do i need a new battery or what? lol

    DFU mode through this method

    hold home for 5 seconds
hold power with home for 10
release power and hold until recognized
    then freshly restore to 2.2.1
use quickpwn (winpwn hasn't been updated in ages)

    Thats your problem!
Use quickpwn, and makes sure your going into DFU mode!! (just a black screen) and not recovery mode (connect to itunes image)

Also, charge your battery upto at least 50% before jailbreaking.

    (How to enter DFU mode:
Hold down home+sleep for 10 secs exactly
release sleep but keep holding home until you hear your computer recognize the device)

    ok.. i'll try quickpwn

    but

the Battery won't charge at all tho..

Please Register or Log in to view images

    at all

(by holding home+sleep then letting up and pushing sleep again, opposite of DFU)
i'll get to this battery screen:

Please Register or Log in to view images

and i let it sit over night and it won't charge up at all, just looks like that the whole time

i know how to get into DFU, thank you

Either your battery meter is messed up (calibrated wrong)
Or yes, your battery is f***ed. The battery is probably charged tho.
