I synced / backed up my 3GS last night.
Today, I plugged it in to restore it. I believe it synced again and backed itself up over my previous backup.
I tried doing a system restore to this morning, but the backup is gone.
Is there any way I can get my data back onto my iPhone 4? I downloaded Recuva to see what I could do, but the crazy way the backup files are named makes it hard to fix the issue.

Are you using a Mac or PC to restore your iPhone?

Ok, what would be the easiest way to identify which backup to use is by the date it was created.

    Windows XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

    Windows Vista and Windows 7:
    C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

When you find the backup with the date and time you think was the time it was properly backed up, right-click your iDevice on the left side of iTunes, click Restore from Backup, and choose the backup with that date and time on it.

Thank you. I had found that folder, and checked the dates. The problem is that my 6/23/10 backup isn't there. I think it was overwritten by a 6/24/10 backup today. Is it possible to recover the old one?

hmm. I'm pretty sure it should have made a brand new file instead of replacing the 6/23 one. So probably it was deleted.
