    "An unknown error occurred (1)"
This error is can be caused by being in the wrong restore mode when tring to downgrade 1.1.3.
The correct 'Force Restore Mode' Should NOT have the connect to iTunes image on the screen.

    1. Make sure your ipod is on and at the Main Menu.
    2. Plug your iPod Touch into your computer.
    3. Press and hold the home button and the sleep/wake button.
    3. Count to 10 and then release the sleep/wake button but contiune to hold the home button.(you will need to hold the home button down for 20-30seconds)
    4. In few seconds you will see the iPod show up in iTunes(note: The screen of the iPod should be Black, If its showing the connect to iTunes image you held the power button for too long).
    7. Now just click the restore button and wait(Note: If you would like to go to an older firmware when you restore hold Shift while clicking restore and locate the firmware file.)

What if you can't reach the main menu?
What if you can only see the connect to itunes image.
I've tried using iphuc to reboot in recover mode but it's not working.

restore to 1.1.3 using this method
1.Make sure iPod is completely powered off.
2.Hold the home button while its off.
3.While holding the Home button, connect the cable. The iPod should power on.
    4.Keep holding the Home button.
5.The Connect to iTunes image should come up.
    6. Congrats, you in recovery mode.

then from 1.1.3 use the method i posted above

Do you get an Error or are you just not able to get into restore mode?

im having problems jailbreaking my 1.1.2
i did exactly what i was supposed to, i downgraded to 1.1.1, installed appsnapp from jailbreakme, installed otkoprep, reupgraded to 1.1.2, but when it finishes itunes acts like it never saw my ipod so i restore it from my previous sync but when i run windows.bat it says i need oktoprep. anyone know how to fix this?

When you update it only updates what it needs to, when you do a restore it wipes the ipod clean getting rid of oktoprep, so you need to go back to 1.1.1 jailbreak, run oktoprep, then go back to 1.1.2 using update.
