I am just about to jailbreak and have downloaded iPod3,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw (which as far as I know is my current OS) and wonder what the process is to restore using that file. It is about 300Mb. JuSt 2 cover my butt

I did find a post that said:
Any comments on this? I have 3G

So far it looks to me like:
hold Shift key and click Restore (in iTunes). Is it that easy

Okay, first off your obviously on a 32gb from the thing under ur name. so u cannot do this. it only works for 8 gb 3g ipods... and secondly if u were on a 8gb ipod 3g ud have the wrong fw. u said u got "iPod3,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw" when u should have iPod2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw.. but it doesnt matter. ur stuck for the time being but dont feel bad i am too ha. HOPEFULLY we'll be free on april 3rd. hopefully.

OK - so I am working toward breaking with redsn0w
I run and click browse and select the iPod3,1_3.1.2_7D11 ipsw and get this msg...
The main window shows IPSW successfully identified.

This msg is not in either of the redsn0w guides I have.

    Q:Is it because I should have iPod2,1_3.1.2
    Q: Should I proceed anyhow?

    thx
