This is a discussion thread for the "Report: iPod Touch in Final Stage of Product Cycle" story posted on the front page.
There is plenty of interest for the iPod touch. It is an iPhone alternative, cheaper and is used by people who want iOS without the cost of having the phone and the iPad mini won't fit in your pocket to listen to music. I mainly use it as a music player and for games and the iPad mini is too big and the iPhone to expensive for a music player that you are able to carry about with you. So there is still a huge market for the iPod Touch
They will never get rid of the iPod touch. Want to put a music device you can play games on in your pocket all day and take anywhere with you ? you can't take the iPad mini in your pocket everywhere. You would look as stupid as those people that actually use iPads for photos and videos.
Based on what? What evidence have you looked at to arrive at the conclusion that there is still a huge market for the iPod Touch? How many people have you seen with a white iPod Touch? I've seen 1. Ever.
Ok well sorry for taking your 'research' with a pinch of salt. It's just at first glance I didn't notice that you were in fact every single person and knew what everyone was thinking.
In my Uni, I see iPhones, not iPod touches. Hell, even iPads are more common than iPod touches here. Whenever I take the bus or ride the EL I see iPhones. Whenever I fly, I see more people playing with iPhones (or Android devices) on the plane. The iPod touch had it's day, but now as the iPhone is becoming more affordable, people are jumping ship towards the iPhone.
I doubt they'll get rid of the ipt soon unless the sales figures are bad. I do think it would be bad to get rid of the ipt, my brothers for example when deployed couldn't have their phones with them so took ipt's instead despite one of them already having an iphone.
