So, my Apple headphones that came with my iPod in March are in terrible condition. The ear buds are torn around the edges and the right one produces sound 60% softer than the right one. Could I ask Apple to replace them, seeing as I've only had them since March? If so, where do I start?

    Actually they do.

The onl way toget a replacement is to call them, plus theres a narrow chance you'll get the Headphones+mic [ unless you tell them ].

Yeah the stock headphones that come with every iPod sucks. I personally like the headphones, but they never last as long as they should. Mine always tears on the rubber part of the speaker.

If you're low on cash (as I), you can get the SkullCandy earbuds for like $15 at Target, Walgreens, etc. They last a long time. I still have the pair I got when my iPod touch 1G headphones broke.

I cannot live without the mic/remote combo on the headphones. Are there any other headphones that mimic that for cheaper?

Me neither. I have the mic/remote from my iPhone and they are staring to rip and this is my THIRD pair. I just super-glued the right headphone and it works like a charm.

    You can try Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MB770G-B-Earphones-Remote/dp/B001NABJ56/ref=pd_cp_e_1

So it looks like Apple will replace the headphones. Says you need to pay $29 (the cost of the headphones) if they don't receive your shipment within 10 business days.

Understood. I'm afraid that my headphones are in such crappy shape that Apple will blame me and charge me.

Well from the fine print is says "due to accidental or liquid damage". As long as you didn't ripped it purposely or got water in them, you should be fine.
