    Is it possible to rename apps on the springboard on 3.1.2 safely??

    Like for example change gpsphone to GBA??

    I tried searching but they all relate to firmwares on 2.X

    Thanks for any help!

    If the rename app doesnt work you can go open up the apps Info.plist file and edit the string the follows the key "CFBundleDisplayName" (this will work on Jailbroken apps and apps from the App Store).

    Here is what you would be looking for if the app was AppList

    <key>CFBundleDisplayName</key>
    <string>AppList</string>

    You can change the value of the string ("AppList") to what ever you want.
    Respring and if you did it correctly taadaa.

    Be careful not to edit to much else otherwise you risk your app crashing when you try to open it.

    EDIT: Oh I forgot to mention, if you are wanting to edit the name of apps like Safari, Contacts, ect you will go to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj and edit LocalizedApplicationNames.strings.

    You will see something like this
    "com.apple.youtube" = "YouTube";
    You just edit the value in the second set of quotes.

    Both mucks and xitz ways work, i would go with getting rename because its easy to reverse. you dont have to ssh or use ifile.
