Ok, i have an 8GB 3rd gen. If i restore and want to jailbreak later, i can just use a 3.1.2 2nd gen ipsw right? So i dont have to back up my shsh blobs right? Also do i just use Cydelete and remove all my jailbroken apps before restoring? and what about jailbroken app data?

Yeah you can just use a 3.1.2 2nd gen IPSW and shift + restore to it. Should work just fine.

No you don't need to. But, If you restore from a backup all of your Cydia data will still be on your iPod, except you will be unable to use them. If you have all of your music backed up, then don't restore from a backup.

So in other words i cant use the back up i made before jailbreaking? Cant i just set it up as a new iPod, then restore from a backup?

I think restoring from a backup at any time will put all of the Cydia stuff back on just as wasted space. I am 99% sure of this, but someone correct me if I am wrong.

Are you sure about this? I thought a restore wipes everything off of the iPod... otherwise everyone who had restored there iPods and sent them to apple would've been rejected.

restoring then seting it up as a backup will bring back modified files, its best to do it as a new ipod
