On a serious and on-topic note: People are usually far more interested new information as that is the appeal of the culture we have today. Therefore if iptf would focus more making the latest (and in general lots more) information more readily available at a faster pace it would contribute greatly. Although to really radically change something we would have to establish what the exact goal of iptf is and should be. Should it be just a site that is meant solely for acting as a community and hearing the thoughts of people on events that relate to ipod/iphone/apple products or is it going to be a large database with practically everything you'd wish to know about anything apple related. It seems to me that this site is leaning more heavily on the community idea but still wishes to have a plethora of information. Due to its only means of getting any news is through the members of the community it is quite dependent on them. This would bring us back to the problem (hypothetical or not i won't specify) if less people are motivated to post threads containing information then we shall have what could be called "plug" in the mainstream. So to solve this issue we would have to cause a large influx of threads that contain relevant information and as a general rule the best way to keep a child out of mischief is to occupy them so (not that i think of any iptf member as a child, im only using this as it generally holds true through all ages) the members would have to be occupied while still contributing valuable information. Perhaps this could be done with "early-bird" competitions or contests that would focus on such areas. Well i may not be completely right, but i hope my effort will not be completely wasted in the case that this post is read seriously and is actually required.

Was that even necessary? Like, come on. Can we all get along? If you don't like something, just bite your lip and keep going on. Don't become all negative Nancy because of an incident. Let's be iPod Touch Fans. The true iPod touch fans! We are the leading site in this device! Let's act like it.

We need to pull ourselves together, and let the past be the past. What's done is done. If you are only focused about power on this forum, then leave. There are members here who want to learn, who want to share their ideas, who want to teach others; but all of that is now delayed because of a discrepancy over egotistical monarchs.

Let's make our change known. We need to be more interested in new members, inviting them in as part of the iPod touch fans' family. We need to be more productive - answer the questions that need answered, help someone needing help, just overall be a community. A community of one. A community of iPod Touch Fans.

very good idea ihaxu. faster news would make this site a great attraction as exactly that - a news site for apple touch stuff - and then people would stay for the rest of what the site has to offer, whatever that may be depending on the mission of the future iptf

Interesting thread I have to say. I had no idea so much bickering was going on between persons.

Now I know I really haven't been here for long but,I feel that one of the problems with this forum honestly is that people don't search. As noobish or whatever you wanna call me sounds. It gets rather old saying the same things over and over, day in and day out. I realize this is nothing the mods or bgizzle can really help, but it gets very aggravating.

I also feel that the community as a whole is something to kinda blame for what has been going on here. I realize that this forum is made up mostly of a younger population, but I believe that the maturity level of this site has to bump it up a notch or two. I've added to this certainly, and of course everyone makes mistakes.

These of course are just my little two cents, being a 17 year old on a forum dedicated to one device. Take as you please.

    Major problems...

As proven by the beginning of this thread, the forum's problems are much deeper than I thought. Sure, we weren't having the same amount of posting/ traffic, but really. I didn't know that we had so many issues amongst the staff (the people who run this site!).

So, I'm not taking sides. The mods, however (all of them) need to sort their problems out. It isn't right for the actual staff to be so divided; no wonder nothing has changed/ no Member Reviewers are here/ nothing. I'm not sure what the cause of that argument was, but come on. And it wasn't one side in particular, so don't try to slant it that way.

Here are some of my ideas to helping the site (and trust me, they've saved another site before):
    • The front page. It's very static now-a-days, and is often late on the news. Whether that means more FP reporters, or the current staff stepping it up, go for it.
    • Mods sort out their problems. Or fire them.
    • Member Review team; bring it back. It helped bring traffic to the forums. Good idea; where is it now?
    • Contests. I remember iPtF having some extremely awesome contests (I think the last one was on Halloween). Bring those back!
    • Overall, the feeling on the forums seems angry. Why? I'm not sure, but the forums are NOT as mature as they used to be (even a year ago). We need to fix that. You think new members come here wanting to be insulted?
    • The forums are static. That is BAD.
    • Push iPad IMO. That is new, and I spend way more time over there (even though I don't have any immediate plans on buying one) just because the community is better.
    • ADAPT (see below)

So those are my ideas/ expectations. Like I said above, I'm not taking sides on the mods argument earlier in this forum. I am saying that the forums are extremely static anymore, with nothing changing. I am on TouchArcade often now, just because the members are nicer and the community is more vibrant.

Speaking of which, I had another idea: Focus on gaming, and the strong points of the iPhone experience. The site needs to be focused on reasons why people buy the device in the first place, as well as being able to answer any questions. Right now, there is a tiny section of the forum dedicated to the App Store. One of the iPod touch/ iPhone's biggest appeal to people are the games. As ifans.com, we should be able to adapt to what market likes the iPod/ iPhone. At the moment, the site still feels oriented towards jailbreaking. Though jailbreaking is important it has been eclipsed by gaming in a big way. To anyone who doubts me, go onto TouchArcade.com and browse the forums. The activity there is insane.

I'm sure that all these changes would take a long time, with a lot of work on BGizzle's part. But I think this is the best time to do it, with the site being in 'off season' for another month or two.

Oh, and don't ban me for having almost the first legitimately useful post. :p
