I had no idea this feature was even possible, I was checking my gmail account in the mail.app, I had just recieved 2 emails with .doc attached to them so I thought I'd see if they'd open up on the ipod, and to my amazemeed they did!

I had no idea we could open up .doc's in mail! wow, I'll be using my ipod even more now

yep knew that for a while now and if you have apache server installed and set it for your ipod root you can browse your ipod and load any microsoft word document in safari. Pretty nifty only if it had a powerpoint viewer now that would be great. However it does aswell read microsoft excel spread sheet.
