According to everyone involved with the project, just ask AriX, Redsn0w cannot brick you're iPod period! If you think that you are special and have a bricked iPod don't post and scare other users.

Redsn0w cannot brick you're iPod it is in DFU mode, hence the black screen!!
(From page three of this thread)

Mac 10.5.6 has a DFU mode problem there is a thread somewhere on here about fixing it but I can't find it right now. Or if all else fails find a PC
    Found it: http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132802

Follow these simple steps if you can't figure out Redsn0w lite.
    Step 1

lug in your iPod to your computer
Step 2: Hold down home button for 5 seconds
Step 3: Don't let go of home button, and press power button for 10 seconds
Step 4: Release power button and just hold home for 30 seconds.
Step 5: iTunes will recognize iPod and restore to ORIGINAL 2.2.1 Firmware
Step 6: Wait for untethered relase and simple GUI

    Alternate:
Apparently holding Power and Home for 20 seconds should also reboot your 2G then follow steps 5 and 6

Alternate Method II: Credit goes to Edotje
Get into DFU Mode using one of the methods above and use ''iRecovery -f iBSS211.dfu'' command and you'll have the ability to restore

    UPDATE: iTunes software unavailabe error
If you recieve this error then the fix is very simple. All you have to do is a manual restore(shift + click restore) and all should go well and the error will shop

Trust me these steps will work. If you're getting a USB error try a different USB port and make sure that (on pc anyway) Apple Mobile Device Service is running in processesy

Make sure your using the ORIGINAL firmware you had on the iPod or put it in DFU mode with the steps above cause sometimes recovery mode doesn't let you restore

Something went wrong so your going to have to restore to the ORIGINAL firmware by going into DFU (No white screen in DFU.) Just follow the above steps and all should work just fine
