    Hi Guy's,
After searching for so long with out finding any definative answers I have to ask a few questions.

I have a (week 27) UK O2 3GS V3.1 jailbroken with Purplera1n and I now want to update the firmware to V3.1.2 and then jailbreak with Blackrain, possibly unlocking the 3GS

I am somewhat confused, some site's suggest that you update the firmware to 3.1.2 without using itunes, and then jailbreak using blackra1n. none of them seem to cover the situation that I am looking to solve.

    so to the questions.

1: How do you up-date the firmware from 3.0 to 3.1.2 without using itunes?
2: Do I need any custom firmware?
3: Is it really as straight forward as just updating the firmware to V3.1.2 and then running Blackra1n?
4: Will it be un-tethered after the jailbreak?

I am sorry if this has been covered before but I am sure I am not the only one looking for this answer, I posted to Blackra1n support but did not get an answer.

    Thanks

    1. iTunes is the only way to update
    2. It would be better if you used a custom firmware (disables baseband update)
    3. Pretty much, but it's better to use pwnagetool or redsn0w as they are more supported by saurik(dev team requires a few more steps, but its not the end of the world)
    4. You should/will be untethered
