I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do this but this appears to be the right board to post this instead of 3.1 firmware jailbreak. Ok, so I have a iPhone 2G that a friend lend to me to jailbreak/unlock. According to users, all I have to do is restore the iPhone using itunes original 3.1.2 firmware, blackra1n it, then use a custom 3.1.2. Is this correct?
Btw, I have no Sim card added. Do I use Activated or Unactivated firmware?

    Skip the blackra1n step.

I'd restore it to the factory 3.1.2 (you can actually skip this depending on what FW it is currently on - but do it to be safe).

After that you can restore it to a custom firmware using Pwnage Tool - or obtain the correct firmware if you're on a PC.
