For the 8GB 3G (meaning you don't have the spec bump the 32 and 64GB versions do) that is pretty good.

My unjailbroken iPod stays around 125-130MB. Any lower, and I use a Free Memory app.

Seeing as he is not jailbroken, it's in the appstore. And to answer your other question, yes.

I'm using an app that Apple pulled of the App Store a while back, so its gone from both for now, anyways.

Running the Free Memory thing in SBSetting will accomplish the exact same thing. Both work really well, but I'm just not jailbroken, so I use the app.

To kill unnecessary processes such as safari and mail that you don't need running all the time, it also improves the speed quite a bit.

If you ever run a game that is really big, then you might want to disable your Winterboard theme, and anything else that you can, and then play, so you don't have it crashing.

    Other than that, its good.
