Is it possible to add custom logos on my JB ipt2g without restoring? And if so, is there an easy way to do this?

    Thanks.

You're supposed to add a bundle to the patched firmware, like the firmware bundles, this will obviously require you to make a NEW firmware and thus restoring to apply the new firmware.

Couldn't you just flash the NOR? Thus removing the need to restore everytime.

Yes, it's possible, but many people are getting Error 6, which would then result in making you do a full restore...
So if you can Flash the NOR without any problems, then go for it.

I have successfully NOR-only restored my iPod Touch 2G on Windows XP, without losing any of my iPod's music, apps, Cydia apps, movies, emails, etc., and even added a Linux penguin custom boot logo, (although recovery logos don't currently work on the 2G). I used to get "Error 6" all the time in iTunes, until I did this:

    1. I tried using the latest build of redTool 0.99.5, which is currently this version: http://www.[PIRACY.mf].com/?4lijqkvoqqr

    2. When I selected the with the NOR-only restore option, redTool created a custom 29.3 MB ipsw.

    3. Then I killed iTunesHelper.exe and opened the custom redTool ipsw (it puts it on your desktop) with WinRAR (don't extract the whole thing, but just open it) and replaced the applelogo.s5l8720x.img3 in the /Firmware/all_flash/all_flash.n72ap.production/ folder, with my modified boot logo (the applelogo.s5l8720x.img3 extracted from the custom boot logo ipsw created by XPwn 0.5.7).

    4. Then I opened iTunes and restored the custom redTool firmware, which now included the custom boot logo I just put in.

    5. iTunes then rebooted my iPod, and then I entered the environment variables after spawning a shell in iRecovery:

    Code:

    Code:
    setenv rs "arm7_stop;mw 0x9000000 0xe59f3014;mw 0x9000004 0xe3a02a02;mw 0x9000008 0xe1c323b4;run rs1"

    setenv rs1 "mw 0x900000c 0xe59f300c;mw 0x9000010 0xe3e02000;mw 0x9000014 0xe503223f;run rs2"

    setenv rs2 "mw 0x9000018 0xeafffffe;mw 0x900001c 0x0ff1a100;mw 0x9000020 0x0ff2afff;arm7_go;run rs3"

    setenv rs3 "sha1 0x8000000 0x3000000;arm7_stop;mw 0xff006d4 0x21906943;mw 0xff006d8 0x68da6898;run rs4"

    setenv rs4 "mw 0xff006dc 0x9300699b;mw 0xff006e0 0x69c40509;mw 0xff006e4 0x47a02300;run rs5"

    setenv rs5 "mw 0xff006e8 0xf0002000;mw 0xff006ec 0xe002fde3;tsys"

    saveenv

    6. Then I put my iPod into recovery mode (not DFU), spawned an iRecovery shell, and typed "run rs" and pressed enter, and it worked. There will be alot of NAND errors in the iRecovery shell, but just ignore them.

UPDATE: Actually, if you go to this thread (http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152387) and download the latest build of redTool you won't even have to use a command window at all, unless you want the custom boot logo. If you do, then just use the modified XPwn 0.5.7 from this thread (http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151938).
