Is there any reason that the iPod takes ages to fill up the last little part of the battery?
It charges up quite quickly then it gets to the very last segment and takes much longer.

Yes, the iPod touch charges to 80% very quickly. Apple calls it "fast charge".

Then it takes longer to charge from 80% to 100% because this 20% portion takes the longest to drain.

    2 things about iPod charge:
    1. Fast charge; takes half the time, charges 80% of the battery.
    2. Full Charge; completely charges the battery making it last longer, takes twice the time of a fast charge(3HRs)
