If this has been asked about already, I apologize, I could never find an answer on my own.

    Questions:
If I upgrade from 3.1.3 to the current FW (4.0.1) (by using the 'safe' method on http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=294917), what would happen to the applications that are jailbroken/cracked?
Would I essentially lose all my data on those apps (like game scores, notes, etc) in the upgrade process?
Is it safer to remain on 3.1.3 until an even later iOS4 release so that Cydia apps can be updated?

    Specs:

    iPod Touch 3G (32GB)
    Blobs backed up for 3.1.3
    JB'd on Spirit
    Semi-relying on a jailbreak

This is also my first post, and I'm glad to finally ask a question here

As far as I know, everything will be erased. I am not 100% sure.

there is an app on cydia that backs up all the app store apps data and you then save it with ssh, and after u update to 4.0.1 and you jailbreak you put it back again i think

You can just right click your iPod in iTunes and click Backup and Transfer Purchases. That should save all of your settings and data for all of your games and other apps.

I'm quite sure they're not saved. Transfer purchases to backup app NOT data

Appbackup= appstore/ipa, backup download via Cydia. Stores save data between firmware or restores

Aptbackup= stores list of Cydia apps, and redownloads them (does not work with ios4)

So the flat answer is that if there are any apps that aren't official app store apps (ex: cydia apps or apps that are cracked) then upgrading to iOS4, even with safe application and a spirit jailbreak, would cause me to lose said apps?
