I'm fine with Vista, but I'd like to upgrade to an OS that looks better, is more stable, and uses less system resources. I've heard nothing but good things about W7. Here are some questions I'd like to ask:

    1. Is W7 unstable in terms of app compatability? What [normal, frequently-used] apps aren't supported? For the record, I mainly use FireFox, AIM, Trillian, LimeWire, iTunes, Microsoft Word, u*******, Steam, PhotoShop, and others.

    2. How fast is W7 compared to Vista? Keep in mind that I'm running with Quad Core CPU at 2.4GHz per core, 4GB of RAM, and a 1GB GeForce 9500GT Graphics Card

    3. Do games run better, worse, or the same on W7 than they do on Vista?

    4. Are games supported on W7? I'd imagine anything on Vista could work on W7.

    5. How fast is the bootup/shutdown process?

    6. Is the UAC as b*tchy as it was in W7? Do you have to click that "ALLOW, DO NOT ALLOW" popup any time?

    7. Are there any other things I should know?

I've used all of those except: iTunes, Word, Photoshop, Trillian and Aim. The rest work fine. Though I use Pidgin. Much better than Trillian and AIM.

XP Fast. So you keep that in mind.

Considering that it is beta and most of the drivers for it are Beta (If the company made Windows 7 specific drivers. I gamed on it, ran really good. Though, since mine uses Beta drivers for my iMac, really minor graphics glitches in words for TF2.

Half that of Vista. But much faster.

This can be easily changed. Its a slider now. I set it to the 2nd to last setting. Much less annoying.

    Yes. Do more research yourself.

I have windows 7 on my other computer and it has 1GB RAM and 80GB hard drive and it has Windows 7 ultimate with aero etc...

it's very fast on that so on a 4GB machine it will be super fast.

Oh and iTunes, Word and Photoshop all work on Windows 7
