my sister has a first gen ipod touch. (i have a 2g, so i dont really know anything about 1g) anyways i have a couple questions
    1. she is using i think firmware 1.1.5 .. can i upgrade that by just downloading 2.2.1 for 1g somewhere (off the internet)? or do i have to do it through itunes? CAN i still do it through itunes?
    2. she said it doesnt charge, i dont really know what she means, but in general would a restore usually fix something like that?
    3. in what firmware did app store come to ipod touch, because it is not on her ipod?
    thanks in advance

1- You have to do it through iTunes so it can make a restore profile (in case you don't DFU). After you update, you can use the internet firmwares. Or a good idea would be to wait for the 3.0, so you don't have to pay twice [$10 for 2.0 and the same will apply for 3.0 if you are an iPod Touch user... I'll be getting it free, along with all iPhone and iPhone 3G users

2- There is a good chance the 30 PIN connector may be damaged. Try a different USB, a different cord, or a different wall adapter.
3- The app store is introduced in 2.0

It would be illegal to do so.
