Hey guys, I was just wondering if it would be ok for me to update to 3.1.1 without like restoring and re-jailbreaking my ipod? Or will this trash it and turn it into a $300.00 paper weight?

You'll lose all of your jailbroken data, but your music, movies, and apps should stay there. When the 2G jailbreak comes out, you'll have to re-jailbreak it.

To update you will have to restore first, you cannot just restore to a stock firmware directly, this will force jailbroken data into a 'hidden partition' of sorts (meaning you will lose space) that will require another restore to rectify.
