    If i enable homescreen wallpaper with a jailbreak, am i forced to have a wallpaper? Can i turn it off in settings? Or just choose no wallpaper

    It has to be on. You could always just get a pure black image if you ever don't want a wallpaper.

    HOWEVER, turning on wallpaper on an older device will likely create a lag in the system because the os is drawing a shadow behind every icon and behind the dock. Using a black wallpaper will not fix the lag. You will need to turn the feature off using redsn0w if you want to restore your device to full speed.

    Can I just edit the plist? Instead of restoring

    You can also edit this file via iFile or SSH to disable/enable the wallpaper:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard/N82AP.plist

    and change:

    <key>homescreen-wallpaper</key>
    <true/>

    to

    <key>homescreen-wallpaper</key>
    <false/>

    You can also run redsn0w again to turn the feature off. No need to restore, just make sure you uncheck all the other options like install Cydia.
