I just found an astoundingly good deal on a 4gb iphone 2g. I'm thinking of purchasing it, but I have a question first.

I live in the US and have AT&T. My plan has no data on it, in fact the data is blocked. I've heard that AT&T forces iphone plans on anyone who uses one, is there a way around this so I can keep using my existing plan?

You can buy any phone without any data plan or contract but it will cost more. I found that out my self by calling them and asking them a similar question to the one your asking. Anyways yes just tell them you dont want a data plan.

The phone is used, so I'm not going through AT&T to do it. So you're saying that if I just put my sim card in the iphone and dont tell AT&T about it, I shouldnt have any issues?

I think the AT&T gestapo will know that you are using an iPhone (regardless of gen) and will force you to buy the data plan.
    Have fun with EDGE.
