Well you could try taking the shadow png files and photoshopping them onto whatever background wallpaper you use. The shadows just won't move with the icons when you scroll pages. Why not just update to 4.0?

Well my iPod is 2g and 4.0 jailbroken is just too slow for me. I can get all the same features on 3.1.2 without slowdown, but I do like the look of the icons in 4.0

Not what he needs. He means the shadows behind the icons in the normal SpringBoard. Unfortunately, it's probably impossible right now. You could photoshop them in, as said before, but they won't move with the icons when you scroll. The easiest way is to just update to iOS4 and wait for the jailbreak.

Somewhere I posted a few screenshots of my iPod springboard using wallpapers with and without shadows. You can see the difference, but you have to look for it and it really is negligible. I don't see any real reason to put any extra work into getting these shadows. I'll post the link to my post with the screenshots as soon as I find it.

Here it is! I have screenshots of both a light and dark wallpaper with and without shadows. See if the shadows are really something you need after looking at this.
