Any unlocked phone, can be used with ANY sim card. So yes, they can buy an iPhone, send it to you and you can use it. But make sure there is an unlock available first

With an 3GS you would need to have it Activated to Unlock it.
The 3G is Hacktivatable, which means it can be Disactivated when Jailbreaking, because redsn0w will activate it. Then just download Ultrasn0w.

does it have to be a at&t simcard or can it be any other1, because here in germany they have quite few sim card providers and would those work? like lets say i just take my cousins sim card and put it in the iphone and than do all the unlocking and such. thanks

The phones are locked to the ATT network, so it will have to be an ATT sim card. The only other one you can use is a Phonebook sim car. I think it was good only once tho

No, not if you want to activate it.
