    In this article here....

    He says this....

    My question is....

Can't you just sell your old iphone on ebay a year or 2 into your cell phone contract...and then just use the newest iphone on your current contract that you had with your old iphone?

Yep, of course you can do that. The only thing is, since you're not renewing your contract or anything, the iPhone 4 will be like $600-700.

Yeah but he says he's gonna buy the iPhone 4 anyways so he would be able to get it at a discounted price if he went with another 3 year contract.....Obviously that wouldn't make sense if you still had 2 years left on a contract you currently had... but he mentions "renewal" so it sounds like his 3 year contract was ending anyways...maybe not though...i dunno lol.

No he's saying that he won't be renewing his contract and he's going to buy the iPhone with no contract (so for the $600-700 price tag).

No? We said the same thing lol. I know what he's going to do he explains that....But if his contract is up for renewal at the same time he's buying his iPhone 4...then he might as well get his phone at a discounted price and renew it.

No, his contract isn't up for renewal. From my understanding, he got his contract when he got his 3GS, so around a year ago. Since he has 2 years left, he isn't able to renew his contract, so he can't get the discounted price.

Why does he talk about the sweet taste of freedom then in the sense that he won't have a contract anymore? When in that scenario he still will have 2 years left. That's what makes it seem even more so that his contract is about to be over.

I think he means that because Canadian carriers only allow us to upgrade when our contract is up (3 years, in his case), if he were to buy the phone for it's full price, he is, in a way, free of Rogers'/Bell's/whoever's restrictions. And knowing how Apple releases a new iPhone every year, you will always be restricted by this policy. So he thinks that paying a little extra for a no-commitment phone is a small price to pay to get whichever phone you want, whenever you want.

Smartest thing to do is give your iPhone and current contract away, then re-sign and get the iPhone 4 at discount.

That takes time though. It may take awhile to actually find someone willing to take over your contract. Plus, you can still sell the 3GS for a pretty high price so even if you buy the iPhone 4 at $700, it's sort of a discount
