PwnageTool 4.01 certain devices are not supported this is because they are not supported in iOS 4.0 or they are not supported by our software. We’re working on ways to get past these restrictions.

    • iPhone 2G - not supported
    • iPod Touch - not supported
    • iPod Touch 3G - not supported

How is (redsn0w) different from PwnageTool?

redsn0w doesn't require a system restore like PwnageTool does (it doesn't even use iTunes at all). On the other hand, PwnageTool can prevent your baseband from being upgraded when you upgrade your firmware, preserving your unlock. (redsn0w doesn't touch your baseband but it doesn't help preserve it during an upgrade either).

redsn0w works by modifying your current filesystem, so your existing baseband, data and applications should remain intact.

So which would you choose ? And why ?

    I would choose Redsn0w because:

    1. I don't have a mac.

    2. My phone is factory unlocked.

    3. No need to restore!

    Redsn0w.

It's for Windows and Mac, so obviously it's better since it has more platforms.

It is QUICK. Not like, blackra1n quick, but it's quick. At most you will take 5 minutes.

It is simple. All you do is find the custom firmware, then it guides you onto how to enter DFU mode, then you get to choose what you want. Isn't that handy.

It's reliable. I have not had a problem with redsn0w yet, it works perfectly.

I choose redsn0w because I simply think it's better in every aspect. I'm biased of course, because I don't have a mac. But I believe redsn0w > PwnageTool even for mac users.
