forgive me cuz this has probably been asked and im extremely tire and cant find it. what else does the pwnage tool do besides allow you to make a custom firmware. im not grasping the whole picture. also im fairly new to the touch.

It allows you to install custom firmware, when iTunes normally won't let you.

Pwnage flashes the BOOTLOADER in the ipod/iphone.
The bootloader is the thing that loads up the firmware
Until now, we have only been able to use firmware that apple have made for us. (1.1.3 for example)
This is because the bootloader is only able to run firmware that has a signed signature.

What pwnage does is, (someone correct me if im wrong).

Flash (change) the bootloader so that it runs custom firmware, not created by apple.

You can then use the IPSW builder to create firmwares that could be:

Pre-Jailbroken = Meaning you dont need to keep going back to 1.1.1 and spending time going back up to say 1.1.3

Pre-installed apps = Meaning you could, in theory, have your whole app collection saved into your firmware so that when having to restore you dont have to install all those apps over and over again.

And finaly... a new boot and recovery screen

= No point but just adds the little touch that pwn's Apple's ass.

Hope this cleared it up a bit
