    hey everyone,
ive avoided posting this for some time cause it seems like i should be able to fix this, but i havent figured it out.

putty says 'network error: connection timed out'
    winscp says the same thing.
but nothing is going on with my network at all, so wtf?

ive followed all the obvious tutorials and searched for forum help, i see no reason...

Yea. Is SSH turned on or even installed on your touch. If it is, then check/recheck your settings again on the program and ipod.

I had the same problem. Obviously there is some application that f**k up ssh, because I restored my touch about 3 times for this problem. The last one, I searched for other solutions. Here what I found to solve:

    First solution:
Open the terminal on your iphone/ipod touch and write:

    ssh-keygen

    and wait.
-> on promp for "Enter file in wich...." just hit enter.
-> on promp for overwrite, hit y then enter.
-> on promp for passphrase, enter your password. (it will be asked twice)
(basically it generates your private key again and winscp should note that)
restart your pod and try to connect again.

    Solution 2:

Install OpenSSH from the Installer (it's better than SSH because it doesn't run another daemon)
but I suggest this if you decide to restore your ipod... so clean install this next time.

    Solution 3:

If you really can't do any of the solutons and still want to access your ipod,

    - install Squid from the Installer
    - search in google for "iPhoneBrowser"

with your iphone attached via USB, you should be able to access his file system.

    Hope it helps.

For the "connectuion timed out" message, in the login screenm, click on advanced, then hit connection in the tree menu, then click on enable keep-alives.

Also, make sure SSH is enabled on your iTouch, and that you have OpenSSH installed via Installer
