    When should I do what?

Before going to bed, I turn it off completely.. b.c I hear the screen is constantly on even when asleep

Otherwise, I just let it sleep (press the top left button once)

As far as i am concern of, the screen should be SWITCHED OFF while in sleep mode, apple would not be dumb enough to have it on while the purpose of sleep mode is to use the lowest power possible

Powering your ipod / iphone down and back on decreases battery life more than having it on sleep

Turning your iPod on and off decreases battery life, whereas I had my iPod on sleep in my pocket for 6+ hours and it was still on 100% when I pulled it out.

i always put it in 'sleep' during the night and during work....Overnight i charge it with AC adapter.

My battery lasts ages though...i went 4 days without having to charge it once! v nice.

the touch is DESIGNED to sleep... why would you force a shutdown? it even asks you to make sure you really want to!.

just put it to sleep. that was built in for a reason.

lol. not really designed. its just innovated to sleep. because the sleep feature is really a powersave feature and one of the best things in an ipod when it comes to powersaving

Not designed? .. they designed it to sleep (powersave) so......I would have to say it was designed to do it
