I have the newest 32 gig - read somewhere if you hold the home button down for 5 seconds - it 'really' closes everything.

I don't really see it doing anything. I've held 10-15 seconds.

Is this an old thing that no longer works?

    Just curious

No, You hold the power button till you see slide to power off, and then you do it.

r u jailbroken? if not you cannot view processes. This can be seen using a jailbroken iDevice and the processes are all quitted if the home button is held for 5 seconds

That is force quiting the app if it ever freezes or you don't want it to background. Hold the power button until it says "slide to turn off" then hole to home button

i believe hes referring not to force quit, but if you hold down the home button for five seconds closing the app, for example safari, the process closes

I'm fairly sure that's an old way that would fully close apps, not leave them running in the background. I may be mistaken though.
I remember using it on my old 1G touch, but I just tried on my 3G and nothing happened.

What I was talking about is that I read somewhere if you held the home button down it increases your battery life. So, yes - when I hold the home button down for 5 seconds - it is doing something? I just don't want to do something if it really doesn't do anything

It will save a little, it just kills everything that is being played in the background

If you're on a 3rd gen iPod Touch or a 3GS like I am holding the home button for 5 seconds just brings up the voice control screen.
