So today I finally noticed the purple flare issue on the camera. It doesn't seem to be as bad as on the iPhone 5, but I wasn't trying to cause it to happen. If the light had been closer to the edge of the frame I imagine it would have been worse, but either way it seems like the new iPod has the same issue to an extent.
I'm sure all those people on instagram care about how skilled their pictures look Just pointing it out.
I've been able to do it with my iPod touch too... It's a 4G. The flare, though, was caused by a reflection. I want to look for the picture, but it was a while ago.
I was fairly dismissive of the issue, but it's still worth sharing, as it is information. Personally, I don't care about it, and the issue is only noticeable in some rare circumstances, the variables of which can almost always be changed to remove the issue. But still, it's interesting. Also, I think that it reveals at least something about the actual optics. While other smartphones (and handhelds) show similar signs of flares in similar circumstances, they usually aren't purple. That's something that seems to be (more or less) exclusive to the iPhone 5 and now the iPod touch.
