well you need a tool battery. you can make one (and i can help you patch it to fix it so you can use it again). after making the tool battery, make a magic memory stick. the program i recommend wil take you to 3.71m33. then upgrade to 5.00m33 (easy) then upgrade to 5.00 m33-4 (latest, also easy)

pm me and ill set up a whole guide for you with links and all.

i just thought io might get an infraction or something for the linking policy... been scared bout that recenytly.... k here goes.

EDIT: UGH just tpyed the whole thing... hit "preview post" and firefox crashed 0_0 my pc suxxx. okay im just gonna do a quick summary.

    1. make a tool (pandora) battery or buy one online ($7 at dealextreme)
    2. heres how to make one. just follow the steps to make the battery, follow nothing on that page after that.
    3. plug psp into power (dont use pandora battery yet) and go into usb mode.
    4. back up your mem stick if you want some of the files on it.(magic mem stick creator will need to format it) follow this tutorial to make a magic mem stick.
    5. follow this tutorial to finish.
    6. you now have a hacked psp on 3.71 m33. if you made a battery, keep going. if you bought one, put your normal one in.
repairing your pandora battery for normal use
remove battery, plug psp into power. go into usb mode.
    1. go here and follow the steps (if it gets removed and you want it pm me)
    2. put in battery, turn it on/off ir you want to test it, it should work normally.

UPDATE PSP (everyone follow this step)
    1. follow this tutorial
    2. after you are one 5.00 m33 update to 5.0m33-4 by downloading the update from here and putting the .pbp file in /psp/game/update

for some tips on cool hacks and what you can do with your psp, pm me. also if you have any ?'s

thats the guide i used to install the CF on a bunch of other ppls psp

you need a service tool battery....

you can hard mod own batter if its for the phat one.....but i dont recomend that

so either get someone who has custom firmware and soft mod a battery for you so you can mod it once(you can restore the battery back to normal after this)
or as the other guy said you can buy a tool battery... but that will cost you a good 6-20 dollars depending on when your gonna buy them

    hope this helps

    that all looks good
    im gunna get started soon
    but
can i just use my current battery, turn it into a pandora battery, and then change it back to the original type?
or should i go buy another separate one?/

    and

say it screws up and its bricked or whatever, what kind of restore things can i use just to be safe?

alright, i went through that first one
and im not up for opening my battery up and all that crap
isnt there some way to soft mod it?

you can indeed repair it to be used again (here)
to restore, you use a magic mem stick and a pandora battery (it doubles as a restore-er) just stick to the tutorials closely, and be careful when making that battery. that is the hardest part. after that its easy.
edit: to put the battery back together, just tape in lines across the battery where it is split. do not tape over tape or else it gets too thick.

edit again: you can just buy a pandora battery. it makes things a lot easier and you can use your normal one, but if you dont want to wait or you just cant buy stuff online, just make one, it works fine.

    hmm
    thanks
i think i might attempt a hard mod
although im fairly sure i will fail, and i cant buy a pandora online
but i read something baout being able to do a soft mod by using a friends psp that has CFW?
i might investigate that before i go and destroy my battery

    thanks for the help
    cheers
