I read on the biteSMS site that you can use carrier-specific proxies for Web access. Does this mean we can get data (Internet, apps, maybe tethering) without a smartphone data plan?

Why a proxy will do for you is bypass the needed carrier data plan to surf the web.
For example if you have tmobile you can use the proxy tmobilex.jaghax.com to surf the Internet at no cost.

(a proxy only works in safari not with any apps and no tethering)

Do I put that under the APN? or do I leave the wap.voicestream.com and put that link in the browser?
