Is there anyway to get around protected networks? I try to get on wifi in my University all the networks are pasword protected.
I know passwords of two of them, I can join either of them but unable to access any website. It says "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server".

The setting on my wifi setting page:

    under DHCP

    IP Address 169.254.243.204
    Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0

    thats it.

Can anyone help to solve the issue...

At least at my university, the ID and passwords are always are school ID and the password we would use to access any pc on campus. If the WIFI is not intended for student use, which doesnt make sense, then you may be out of luck. Id check with administration about using a laptop to access the WIFI and see what they said.

Breaking into the network can be easy or difficult. If you need passwords I would contact the proper people and see if you can get access.

The problem with getting outside the network is a different issue. It is possible and probable that the network administrators have limited access to certain external websites.

You might want to ask the network guys if they block certain sites.

I fyou know what kind of security they have on the wifi, then try to join the network a different way.

    1. Go into settings-wifi
    2. When that loads, click other
    3. In name type exactly what name your ipod sees it as
    4. Then tap security.
    5. Now you have to tap whatever kind of secutrity they are using, most popular is WEP I belive.
    6. Go back, and type in the password
    7. Hopefully get in!!

Im not sure if that will help you, but it solved my problem on my home netowrk, so it may work.
    Good luck...

If they are using WEP or any other WiFi security you'll need the encryption key to be able to connect to the network. It doesn't sound like they have this as the OP said he could connect but not go to any outside websites. So it is not likely that they are using WEP or WPA.
