So I have an iPod Touch 2G with 8 GB. I had jailbroken the 4.0 GM with redsn0w 0.9.5b5-1 earlier. I have Windows 7, so I had kept getting a black screen on my iPod once the jailbreak was done and so it never finished. So I had redsn0w run under compatibility mode with Windows XP and it worked.

Fast forward to yesterday when the new redsn0w was released and I wanted to update so I could use iBooks. Problem is... the black screen returned.

    - Tried restoring to GM... didn't work
    - Tried restoring to official 4.0... didn't work
    - Tried running under XP compability mode... didn't work
    - Tried running as administrator... didn't work
    - Tried running my computer under safe mode with networking... didn't work
    - Tried doing a completely fresh restore... didn't work
    - Tried using the earlier beta to point to the GM while I was on the final 4.0 firmware... didn't work

I tried every solution I could find via Google, YouTube, and this forum. The worst part is... now I can't jailbreak it at all. I can't jailbreak my 4.0 GM with the earlier redsn0w beta anymore either. So as of now I'm stuck with the official public 4.0 release, and I can't jailbreak it for some reason cause I can't get past the black screen to finish the jailbreak.

Anyone know what I can do? I would GREATLY appreciate it! I just want 4.0 jailbroken with multitasking and homescreen pictures, and iBooks working.

i think we have the same problem... the kernel and the ram wont patch after the dfu mode right? and on ur pc it says done.. click finish..
and on ur ipod, it will enter dfu mode with white screen then will blink again.. then it will turn black screen..
u wont see the disk where it says (downloading jailbreak data) nor the pineapple logo.. im stuck as well with iOS 4 public release.. sigh.. FML

Exactly, it works perfectly fine except when it says it's done and will continue on the iPod, it doesn't. And now I can't even jailbreak the 4.0 GM which I had done before.

    heres my video on redsn0w,
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STs6uhvrLr0&fmt=18
therefore they can see the difference that ram or kernel wont patch before it says done.. but for normal it will, but in our case.. it wont..

lets search for the normal process of redsn0w on youtube.. for them to see, what's our concern..

I'm no genius and this sounds plain stupid, but make sure there's no firewall interference. My firewall always screws around when I jailbreak and doesn't notify me or anything.

Yes, I'm using redsn0w 0.9.5b5-4 for windows, which is the latest version.

And xcdjy, my firewall is turned off. Thanks though.

    My firewall was turned off.
I turned it on, allowed a bunch of stuff and everything worked fine (I was using Comodo).

Same here, changing my firewall settings didn't do anything.
